Abstract

The massive information on current digital directory has daunted on-spot information searching especially for those who are in the rush. This paper proposes a Proximity Driven Cyber-Physical Directory (PD-CPD) to deliver a novel search-free experience. PD-CPD leverages Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacon to detect user’s proximity and thus visualizes the corresponding content as user approaches the directory. A dynamic fingerprinting approach is further extended with adaptive scanning to enhance the detection performance. Two real-world applications (i.e., a flight directory and a movie directory) are implemented to demonstrate the feasibility of PD-CPD. PD-CPD achieves high detection performance with accuracy up to 90% and sensitivity less than 50% using proposed fingerprinting approach. Furthermore, PD-CPD also guarantee the visibility of least relevant content when the system visualizes the target content for multiple users.
